Quietude… a retreat

A beautiful, serene, green environment and aesthetically set up rooms can be your abode at the Gnostic Centre - at Quietude (a retreat) - the Centre's residential facility for guests. Away from the usual hustle and bustle, you can enjoy a time to focus, to in-gather, and form linkages.

You can have your meals at the Centre's kitchen and/or cafe (dinner is included in the room tariff), besides basic amenities such as laundry etc. The rooms are air-conditioned with attached bathrooms.

Facilities you can avail:

  • Shrine (with Sri Aurobindo’s sacred relics) : A place of total silence, for in-gathering, offering, connecting with yourself and the divine.

  • Library : books and journals, in an environment that is peaceful… you can put on soft music and spend a wonderful time delving in. (should you wish to borrow a book, please take permission from the office)

  • Study circles & Talks : Every Saturday morning, at 9am we read Sri Aurobindo’s ‘Savitri’ (a mantric epic) – for an hour (in the library-cum-meditation hall). Join in. Also check for any other ongoing study circles or Talks and other upcoming events.

  • Alchemy (health centre with a gym, yoga & aerobics studio, steam bath) : Fix a time with the instructor/health centre in-charge (Durjee) and chalk out a work out as per your needs. (chargeable basis)

  • Café (organic, healthy, home-made fresh food) : Enjoy innovative recipes – drinks made out of fresh flowers, herbal teas, cakes & cookies made from flowers, etc. Here you can have your breakfast and tea also. (chargeable basis)

  • Bookshop : On-campus, in the Shrine block – books, journals, DVDs, CDs, incense – for sale.

Community Work

To help you settle in, and to be involved in some community work, we invite you to be a part of the Gnostic Centre during your stay. Here are a few things that you could contribute towards, take up… of course, besides these something else could also emerge – in sync with what you like doing, are good at… for that, feel free to interact with the team and work it out.

Services you can offer:

  • Shrine : Help out in the cleaning and upkeep… a quiet offering. Contact Sunaina for this.

  • Library : Help in tidying up, repairing, covering of books; stock checking. If you have the inclination and aptitude, you could initiate a reading group – contact Anuradha to work out the details.

  • Alchemy : If you have an aptitude for or skill in any aspect of physical culture, massage, healing technique, yogasanas, exercise form – contact Durjee for scheduling a session(s)

  • Café : What about sharing a few recipes with Mousumi (Café in-charge) and/or offering a special meal for the guests coming to the Café? You can also help in collecting the flowers and/or fruit or any other work needed at that time in the Café. (You can also help out in the main kitchen if you wish to.)

  • Talks/Workshops : If you have a special skill / knowledge base, we could schedule a talk or a workshop that you facilitate – contact Anuradha to work it out.

  • Ecological work : The Centre is engaged in many ecological initiatives – organic farming, water conservation, soil stabilization, solar energy, waste management. The work is in a nascent stage. Your help will be appreciated. Contact Anuradha.

  • Bio-diversity gardens : The Centre’s gardens have a diversity of trees… you could take up the cataloguing of some of these. Contact Sunaina.

  • L’avenir : Do you like working with little children or creating educational resources or can share a skill with the teachers? Then please offer your services to our preschool, L’avenir. Contact Sunaina.

  • Shramdaan : This could be in any area that is the need of the moment – related to cleaning work, regular maintenance, garden, kitchen, office work, etc. Contact Anuradha.

  • Facilitating/Teaching the Garden & Cleaning staff at the Centre and/or their children : Why not spend an hour or so teaching literacy or craft or songs or any other skills to the children of the staff at the Centre / or with the staff itself – facilitating sports or something else for them in the evening?

  • Other : The Centre is engaged in many activities besides the ones listed above (journal and multimedia production, teacher education, online postgraduate programmes, website work, transcription, creation of resources, etc.). You might have the know-how to help out in any of these areas. Contact Anuradha.
