Aims and
Methods of ICIS
To illuminate and integrate both the human personality and the field of life
and culture with the light of understanding given by Sri Aurobindo and the
Mother.
Nature of ICIS Programmes
ICIS aims to open up the field of in-depth study and research so as
to bring the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother into engagement with
all the mainstream disciplines of the academy, and to generate a necessary
dialogue towards the re-shaping of humanity and life for the future.
Integral Learning: Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Focus
By “integral” ICIS means approaches towards the integration of the
mental, vital, physical, psychic and spiritual parts of the human; as also
the integration of the inner life of the human being with the outer
disciplines of knowledge and action and the integration of diverse
traditions of knowledge and culture towards the shaping of a global
civilization. It hopes to achieve this through comparative and cross, inter
or trans-disciplinary approaches, utilizing the guiding light of Sri
Aurobindo and the Mother to facilitate this.
Credit Calculations
For ease in transferring credits between programmes within ICIS or between
different universities, ICIS follows a standard credit calculation system
for its courses. Most ICIS certificate courses are
of 6-10 credits each, wherein one credit equals 30 hours of educational
participation, comprising of readings, audio lectures, assignments,
research, reflection and assimilation.
Evaluation
ICIS views assessment not only as
a measure of present learning, but as a tool for further learning.
Therefore, the student is encouraged to carry out self-assessment through
various modes, in collaboration with the facilitator.
